West Village Street Parking Tips

  • During the day, most on street parking is available just due west in between Greenwich and Washington streets. All of this parking is, however, in areas of alt-side parking, so make sure to patrol the area so your car isn’t parked on the side that is scheduled to cleaning on that day!
  • Overnight, most parking that is legal and available is due west of the famous stonewall inn, near both Greenwich and Washington Streets.
  • 1-2 hour metered parking is available throughout the day on Hudson St and 7th Ave Monday through Saturday.
  • Rates are $3.50/hour or 50₵ for 10 minutes for most hours.  From 6-10pm the rate is 5.00/hour.  Meters are not in effect on Sundays. Pay attention to the parking duration and times listed on the meter.
  • Most meters end after 7pm and then become free parking, but be sure to read all signs, because this can vary per location.

Greenwich Village Alternate-Side & Residential Parking

Greenwich village and the greater Metro NYC area does not have residential permit parking.  This means that all unmetered street parking is FREE, but subject to many restrictions and yield a high potential for tickets.  Many of Greenwich Village’s heavy traffic street are subjected to commercial zoning by day, meaning no public parking. During the day, on less frequented streets, such as side streets between Greenwich and Washington, there is Alt-Side parking .  Alt-Side parking, is a set of parking restrictions that make parking illegal on one side of the street for a few hours a day to allow for street cleaning.

Alt-Side parking can be tricky and unpredictable, so we strongly recommend paying close attention to @NYCASP,  NYCTDOTs twitter feed for an update on Alt-Parking restrictions by zone.

Greenwich Village Parking Tips

Whether day or night, finding Greenwich Village parking is sure to be a challenge.  The best option is to look for spots a bit further west.  There is some metered parking available in the heart of  the West Village.  When parking in Greenwich Village, be aware that you have fierce competition. Parking in another neighborhood or a garage would be better options.  Don’t forget to look for signs for alternate-side parking. The city is very strict about giving tickets to those who get in the way of street cleaners.
